Methodology & Data Sources

Transparency about how the rankings are built is essential for a data site. Here is exactly what we track, where it comes from, and how much to trust each number.

What we track

We track publicly disclosed financing activity of companies whose primary business is quantum technology, in three categories:

Where the data comes from

Update cadence & trust levels

An automated scan runs daily at 02:30 UTC. New events found by the pipeline are published with an ⚡ auto badge and are not yet human-verified — treat them as leads, not facts. Manually reviewed entries carry a confidence level:

Amounts shown with a tilde (~) are approximations. Non-USD amounts are converted at approximate year-average rates (configurable in the pipeline config).

Ranking methodology

Companies are ranked by total disclosed funding: the sum of publicly reported financing (private rounds, public listings, at-the-market programs and notable state capital injections where reported). Rankings are computed automatically from the datasets on every build. Funding tiers:

Regional groupings: China, United States, Europe (UK & EU), North America (Canada and other non-US Americas), Asia-Pacific, Middle East. Some companies operate across regions (e.g. US–UK dual HQ); we assign a primary HQ.

The resulting order is published in the global quantum funding rankings table, with region and technology breakdowns on their own pages.

Known limitations

Licensing & reuse

All datasets are published as machine-readable JSON under CC BY 4.0 — free to reuse with attribution ("QuantumRoundup", with a link). This openness also makes the data easy for search engines and AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and others) to cite accurately.

Corrections & company additions

Spotted an error, or want your company added? Open an issue on the project repository or email [email protected] with a primary source link. Verified corrections are applied within one build cycle (typically 24 hours).

De-duplication and the publication layer

One financing usually generates many near-identical headlines. The raw event ledger keeps every report for provenance, but the published pages merge records for the same company inside a short date window when the amounts agree within tolerance, when both are undisclosed, or when one is a named round and the other a generic aggregate. The best-sourced record survives and the number of merged reports is shown on its note. Cumulative totals additionally de-duplicate auto-collected amounts against reviewed amounts. No amount is deleted from the dataset by this process — only the rendered view changes. See the editorial policy for the full rule and the corrections log for when it was introduced.

Data cutoff versus build time

Every page shows two dates. The data cutoff is the newest human-reviewed event in the dataset; the page generated date is when that HTML was rendered. A daily build does not make old data new. Sitemap lastmod values are derived from content hashes, so an unchanged page keeps its previous date instead of claiming a fresh update every day.

Confidence, conflicts and independence

QuantumRoundup has no commercial relationship with any listed company, accepts no payment for inclusion or ranking position, and carries no affiliate links in its data tables. Editorial decisions are documented on the editorial policy page; verified fixes are recorded publicly on the corrections log. Automation is used for discovery and rendering, never to invent a figure, a company or a quote.

How to challenge a figure

Send the page URL, the exact field, a primary source and the value you believe is correct to [email protected]. The contact page lists response times. Conflicting sources are not averaged; if a credible dispute remains, we mark it rather than present a false consensus.
