How to cite, recompute or challenge this dataset

The site is built from three published JSON files and a generator that reads them. Nothing in the ranking is computed behind a private API. If a figure on a page looks wrong, you can reproduce it, change the rule and see what would have happened instead.

The three files

companies.json is the company registry and the source of the cumulative totals. funding-events.json is the raw report ledger, including duplicates and unreviewed rows. stats.json holds the aggregates that drive the hero numbers, region snapshots and technology snapshots. rankings.json is the rendered, de-duplicated view used by the tables. All four are published without a login and licensed CC BY 4.0.

The distinction between funding-events.json and rankings.json is the important one. The first is evidence; the second is an editorial decision. Citing the second while claiming to cite the first overstates what the raw reports say.

A defensible citation

Write: Data from QuantumRoundup (quantumroundup.com), compiled from public sources, CC BY 4.0, data cutoff [date]. Keep the ~ on approximate amounts and state which instruments you included. If you are writing in Chinese, cite the corresponding /zh/ URL; the numbers are the same USD values shown in 亿美元, not a separate currency conversion.

Where English and Chinese wording differ in emphasis, the English version is the authoritative one for factual claims, and the Chinese version is authoritative for Chinese-market conventions such as STAR Market listings and state capital.

Recomputing and challenging

Download the JSON, apply your own de-duplication window, exclude or include public-market instruments, and sort again. The site's own rule is documented on the methodology page and in the syndicated-reports column. If you believe a row is wrong, the contact page gives the correction format and the corrections log records what changed, on what date and why. We publish that log rather than quietly editing the number.

Published dataset files and what each one contains

FileWhat it contains
companies.jsonCompany registry and cumulative disclosed totals
funding-events.jsonRaw report ledger, including duplicates and unreviewed rows
stats.jsonAggregates used by the hero numbers and snapshots
rankings.jsonDe-duplicated, rendered view used by the tables

The practical takeaway

An auditable table is more useful than a confident one. Every number on this site should be traceable to a row you can open, disagree with and send back to us.
